Moncini: "We must give more, SPAL does not deserve this position"

At the end of the morning training session, biancazzurro striker Gabriele Moncini reached the press room of the "G.B. Fabbri" Sports Center to answer questions from the journalists present.

"I am not satisfied with either the group result or the personal one. I left with the idea of doing another championship, - said the spallino number nine - then things did not go well and I also had to deal with an injury that kept me in the pits for quite some time. However, I am convinced that I have always given 100 percent in terms of commitment and application, with respect to which I have no recriminations."

"At the beginning of the season we were included among the papable winners of the tournament, but it had been a wrong assessment because this year's championship has shown a really important level and to this we have to add the exploit of Südtirol, a formation that no one credited for the top of the standings in August. There is one thing I will never tire of repeating: we have a staff that does not deserve this position, then it is obvious that if you change three coaches there is something that did not work."

"A team that is last in the standings," continued the biancazzurro striker, "has players who tend to be more afraid of missing plays, and this I think is normal. In these two weeks at our disposal, the coach is working on a few basic concepts, and I think that if we want to get out of this situation, it is right that the whole group should follow those simple and basic concepts, on which, however, we need to give 100 percent."

"I'm not a big fan of talking, because in soccer when there are problems you tend to talk too much and then you end up off track. These days, however, we have been talking and looking into each other's eyes, especially with the more experienced among us, because there is a need to give something more, even if it may sound like a buzz phrase. Today it is necessary to draw a line: those who are with us are coming with us, while those who do not believe can also stay home."

"I have also played before with other strikers with similar characteristics to mine and we have always both scored goals. I think Andrea and I can play together, but it's obvious that every team has its own mechanisms and maybe this SPAL has characteristics that go better with a one-point set-up, because there are outfielders who need more space. But, again, absolutely I am convinced that between Andrea and me there is no incompatibility."

"I feel indebted to the fans," Gabriele Moncini concluded, "because places like this I have seen very few. They are fantastic because they always support us, they proved it even in the last away match where they filled the curve, and I can only thank them. What we have to do is not to suffer the criticism, which is more than legitimate on their part, but to use it in a positive sense, turning it into new strength."
