Viareggio Cup, SPAL loses to Pisa and is eliminated from the tournament

The Biancazzurri's adventure in the 73rd edition of the Viareggio Cup stops at the group stage.

Coach Vito Grieco's team was not lucky, and in the second half they came close to taking the lead on several occasions, but were unable to get past guest goalkeeper Guadagno. The Pisa extreme defender overcame Angeletti's attempt in the 20th minute of the second half and was helped by his teammates in the save on the line on Van der Vlugt's header ten minutes later.

In the 74th minute came the goal that decided the match from Coppola, who found the net with a conclusion from outside the box after a corner kick in favor of the Tuscans.

SPAL and Pisa thus end the group stage paired in second place on four points, but what rewarded the Nerazzurri was the victory in the direct clash allowing the Tuscans to qualify for the round of 16, behind Honved Budapest.
