Fermana - SPAL, coach Di Carlo's pre-match conference
After finishing the eve's refinement, coach Mimmo Di Carlo presented the Fermana - SPAL match, scheduled for Sunday, February 18 at 2:00 p.m., in the pre-match press conference of the 27th day of the Serie C NOW 2023-2024 Championship.
"The one in Fermo is the third match in a week and a team that has to score points awaits us, just as SPAL has to score points, so there is little to reason about the opponent but we need to look at ourselves. We are going to a tough field and from a character point of view it will be a good challenge, because it foreshadows a game of strength and determination on the part of both teams. We respect Fermana, because in the last challenges they have shown that they are a team that has not given up and believes in salvation, but we have to give continuity to what we are doing. We needed a switch to reverse the trend and we achieved it through attitude, courage and a high team spirit, and tomorrow we all want to give continuity to what we have gathered in the last two games."
"Maistro scored a great goal in Pescara, his first in this league, and he will be a starter tomorrow. Peda is back in defense after being disqualified, while in midfield I have to consider whether to give one of the two centerbacks a rest. In attack I have four players who are all doing very well and, I have to be honest, I really like their attitude, because they are hungry and want to redeem themselves, as well as the rest of the team. Who I choose I am sure will go strong and whoever takes over in the game in progress I have no doubt will go even stronger: we have seen that the team has understood the importance of helping each other and this element is indispensable to have a crescendo at the end of the season, which is what we want to do."
"If I fear that the team might take the match under consideration? If tomorrow I see a player lowering the mental tempo I will eat it and say it quietly, because I have been very clear with the team. The whole group has responded by working very well and doing important workouts, but we have not achieved anything yet, we have to continue on our path with this attitude and I am confident. We all feel confidence around us and it is something that gives us enthusiasm, but we have to be the first to transmit enthusiasm to all our people, who have always been close to us even in difficulties. To do this we need to continue to give strength in performance and results, because these are the two elements that lead to the confidence and enthusiasm that we are feeling now."
"When I arrived I asked the guys for a mental switch, because this team has quality and there is no point in denying it. We need to work on attitude, courage and play because these are the three things that allow you to win games and the standings tell us that we need to pick up a few more successes to pull ourselves out of this situation. If we want to achieve something more we must also be willing to risk something and this risk must be interpreted in the right way by the team. Today, even in training sessions, you can see that the guys are looking for each other more, they try the play with more courage and if the mistake happens no one puts their head down, but they immediately go for it again. This attitude is what a group needs if they want to win: to try until the ninety-fifth minute, knowing full well that they are always in the game. In Pescara the victory also came through suffering, an element that may have been a little lacking in the past, but today it is there and we need to keep working on it because knowing how to suffer is fundamental to achieving a team victory, which is the goal we set ourselves every week."
