SPAL statement
With great regret, the ownership of SPAL officially announces that the club will not be participating in the upcoming 2025–2026 Serie C season.
This is a painful outcome, the result of numerous attempts to identify concrete solutions that could ensure the continuity of the sporting and corporate project. Unfortunately, current conditions have made this impossible.
Over the past four years, the ownership has made significant financial efforts, investing €50 million in actual cash (including €12 million in just the most recent season) in an attempt to relaunch SPAL, with the goal of giving the city of Ferrara a team worthy of its history and passion. However, despite the full commitment and involvement of the shareholders, the sporting results achieved have not met expectations, nor have they matched the level of investment made.
In addition, it has become increasingly difficult to secure new funding and to attract external parties willing to support such a demanding project, despite numerous negotiations and efforts to open up to partnerships or changes in ownership.
As previously mentioned, one of the partners who had expressed the intention to join the ownership group with a significant investment withdrew after a troubling incident in which some so-called “fans” physically and violently attacked SPAL players during a training session a few months ago.
However, to be clear, SPAL’s ownership remains unchanged and, despite inaccurate reporting and unfounded statements, we have not “gone bankrupt” and the club has not filed for bankruptcy. In the coming days, we will evaluate the available options, including the possibility of registering the club — of which we remain full owners — in a lower division.
